As a business owner, you would be foolish not to install a surveillance system at your business. Some studies have shown that as many as one in 12 customers is a shoplifter and that the average shoplifter commits 50 thefts before being caught. It’s not just your customers you have to be concerned about either. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates that 75% of all employees steal at least once and that about half of all employees steal regularly. The Chamber also reports that one in every three business failures is the direct result of employee theft.
1. Reduce Liability
More and more, business owners need to protect themselves against lawsuits and false insurance claims brought about by their customers, vendors, and employees. A video surveillance system helps reduce the business owner’s liability.
2. Correct Poor Customer Service
The average customer service incident results in the loss of at least 10 customers, so correcting poor customer service delivered by your employees is paramount. If employees understand that they are being recorded, they will step up their customer service and make a better effort.
3. Fight Fraud
Customers are less likely to commit credit card fraud or return merchandise they did not buy when there is an obvious video surveillance system in place. The same is true of your employees.
4. Have Proof When You Need It
Having a camera surveillance system at your business has an immediate effect on shoplifters as well. Installing security cameras outside your business ensures that you have the proof you need if a break-in occurs at night or if your customers or employees are stashing goods behind the building for retrieval at night.
